Trade Mark Application Filed for ‘Fake News’
A Canadian company and the Florida Association of Professional Journalists have filed a trademark application to protect the words ‘fake news’.
The applicants point out that the US President uses the term too often and incorrectly. Fake news should denote news with no verified facts and no reliable sources, while, allegedly, Donald Trump has also been using the term for the news he dislikes. By registering the trademark, the applicants aim to limit the use of the word combination, thereby protecting the free and independent press.
