New copyright rules announced

The European Commission has announced its modernised EU copyright rules.

Improving the copyright rules constitutes a significant part of the recent Digital Single Market Strategy. Some changes include amendments to the regulations concerning research, cultural heritage, academic institutions, as well as other creative activity (fashion design, art and media, to name but few).

The changes were brought about mainly by the increasingly digitalised society and environments (such as YouTube), where copyright infringement occurs on a daily basis.
